Thanks to all who took the time to post on the forum for suggested rule changes for 2016. The Competition Committee reviewed these in detail. From those we put forth a change to revise the Vet class structure, with the idea of a more balanced group of vet classes and more progression opportunity.
Looking at lap times it was clear that age has no significant bearing on speed. Some of the top Vet A riders are not far from the grand age of 50 or they already qualify for Super Vet A as they are over 50. Top Super Vet A riders times are in line with those top Vet A times. We can apply the same for Vet B and Super Vet B times are very comparable and age is not a large factor.
We looked at the idea of adding the 30 plus morning class and decided that this was really not viable as we don’t have the number of riders to support another class.
We wanted to reset the Vet class based on rider ability more than the over 40 or 50 years of age qualifier. This provides 4 classes instead of 2 for riders to progress through.
So for 2016 the following change was tabled and voted on. The result was unanimously voted YES and decided to move forward.
2016 Vet Classes
Vet age is 40 years young as of January 1st of the race year. There is no more 50 years as a qualification for the Super Vet class riders.
Vet AA will be a combination of Vet A as well as the top Super Vet A riders – Start times will remain as afternoon start and will remain as two hour duration
Vet A will be a combination of Vet A and Super Vet A riders and the top Vet B riders – Start times will remain as morning start and will remain as two hour duration
Vet B will be a combination of Vet B riders, Super Vet A riders and Super Vet B riders – Start times will remain as morning start and will remain as two hour duration
Vet C will be a combination of Vet B riders, Super Vet A riders and Super Vet B riders – Start times will remain as morning start and will remain as two hour duration
Vet Class Assignments
All of the Vet class riders’ results and lap times will be reviewed in detail to determine the most appropriate class for each rider. OO will then post class assignment recommendations. Riders should feel free to ask the Competition Committee about entering a different class if they do not feel they have been appropriately placed.
More to come so keep an eye out for the next forum updates that will have the rider promotions for 2016 based on both last year’s results as well as the new class structuring promotions.
